Carmichaels

Redemption, thy name is Carmichaels. This west loop steak house is a proper steak house with a clear idea of portion size and carrot cake. Service with a sassy attitude, french onion soup, au groton, a 16oz Niederkorn, and we’re back on track.

May 8th is the next Steak night.

  1. Thank GOD, a real size piece of meat! And I am not talking about martin’s bursting pecks……After our adventure to the Custom House in March, Carmichaels was a welcomed addition to the steak night rotation. Dining ambiance was straightforward, with exposed brick and an overall City of Chicago theme. The wait staff was helpful, albeit a little too excited and ‘touchy’. I guess that is what happens when serving a table of such fine young professionals (one of which who was a bigger swinging dick then most, hot off of his fancy pants promotion! Congrats to you Mr. Thoresen!).

The appetizers were excellent, especially the Lobster “Temp-you-ra”. The sides and dessert included a strong showing as well. My Porterhouse however, was average. The Al Forno topping was different and infused with garlic, which I rather enjoyed. The steak itself was cooked more medium then medium rare, and I can’t help but feel the meat was of lesser quality then previous establishments.

Overall, I enjoyed Carmichaels and would not hesitate to dine there again. What I can’t quite figure out is if I would have liked it this much, had we not had such a poor experience with Custom House in March…….I give it a B.

  2. I have to agree with Pauly Shore and its certainly not because of his contributions to modern day cinema.

Although I really enjoyed Carmichaels and would certainly eat there again; I think the overall take away was overly positive because everyone was just so happy to be back at a real steak house after the Custom House debacle. In addition this was the first steak night with all 8 members in attendance. Having so many fine gentlemen in one place also added to the kids at Disney World level of excitement of the entire group.

None the less the french onion soup was amazing, the aps were quality and the portions were properly sized. The steak was good but not great.

One final shout out to Mrs. “Walk us thru our sides” who had a bottle of bubbly waiting for the table to celebrate the hubbys promotion. A classy move.
