Rosebud : Prime

The first all-hands steak night for 2009 was at Rosebud Prime. Not to be confused with one of the other Rosebuds further north where one might have hypothetically checked one’s coat only to be left to wonder “Where is everybody?” We started with bacon wrapped scallops (very good), crab cakes, lamb and something indeterminate but otherwise coconut crusted. They were out of Stella but otherwise have a solid wine selection. For both courses the service was slow for a night where we were one of 6 tables in the place but it was a great chance to catch up and reminisce about past steak nights: dogs barking at Mortons, Rays locked in garages, the stranger.I’m often there for lunch – the jalapeño corn chowder is excellent – but this is the first steak I’ve had there. I have to recommend the cajun bone-in ribeye. It wasn’t what I ordered but after a bite of what I had, I knew somehow that it was meant to be. It’s getting more difficult to rank these nights in any particular order but I think it’s safely closer to the tail end of the list than the top. Eagerly looking forward to comments on this one. Until March, gents,

  1. Sorry to see Hans get ill at his choice.

Mr. Gimmie was in good form.

    Loved seeing the entire crew

  2. Well in retrospect after a restless night of alka seltzer and late night TV, I believe it was not rosebud prime that took me down, but more likely the flu. I found the appetizers to be superior over the main course. I am also hoping the bus boys find the second half of my steak in the leftovers box I left under the table while departing in much haste for the comforting confines of my own home.

  3. Props to old Gims for showing up before the dinner started and lammykins I already miss you…kisses to you boys!

  4. Gents-

I am hungover today and apparently I have a new nickname derived from my cocktail of choice (which is what has probably provided me with said hangover) but I digress….

Rosebud Prime, not Rosebud Steakhouse. I wish it was Rosebud steakhouse, which i have eaten at twice and had 2 excellent meals — the group has yet to go. There was really nothing Prime about our dining experience at all. Aside from a nice wine recommendation the service was slow and my steak came au poive instead of cajun style (Roddy got to enjoy that one) it was also cooked closer to medium then medium rare which is the worst offense of all.

The best part of the meal were for sure the BBQ scallops….very nice. It was good to see the boys and to receive a new nickname….I think it is safe to say i was a bit over-served.

I will choose not to repeat dine at Rosebud Prime

  5. Steak: overdone. Appetizers stole the show. Key lime: meh.

    Company: priceless.
