Joe’s…..again
This month’s steak night had a very low attendance, with only, Rick, Glick, And Slick. (That’s me)
Nothing much to say that wasn’t said a couple of months ago. I will say it’s sort of amazing that even though Hans didn’t attend, he still ate the majority share of the stone crab appetizer.
As is becoming an annual event, Rick Ray was presented a birthday gift. The back story is one day, Glick texts me a picture of a hat. I didn’t even need to hear a reason or description. I simply said “yes” knowing full well what it was for. Our recent birthday boy, the ever loving Alabama and Nick Saban fan, AKA The Alabama Apologist was due for a new lid. And what a lid it is…..on to April and the 10th anniversary of Steaks and Cigars. Time flies when you’re living good.

Back in November steak night was canceled for the first time due to less than 3 people able to attend. We came dangerously close to having to cancel again, which would reflect poorly on Chicago’s finest and get us dangerously close to resembling chick steak night. Luckily the treacherous three of myself, Glick and Crenshaw saved the day and avoided a second cancelation within a couple of months.
This was not a traditional steak night in the sense that there was no host, we just all agreed to go to Joe’s. The batting order can pick up again next month. Joe’s is always fantastic. We had stone crabs which are good but I still think are overrated and don’t provide a lot of bang for your buck. I got the crab bisque which was phenomenal. My bone in rib eye was great. Sides includes grilled tomatoes which have melted cheese and spinach and lyonnoise potatoes, both excellent. For dessert we got the Havana dream pie which was top notch. As always Joe’s provides a top tier dining experience from top to bottom.
I am not an Alabama fan despite the endless propaganda of many in this group saying otherwise. However the Bear Bryant hounds tooth hat gift was hilarious. Well played gentlemen. After dinner drinks were at Snickers where we had stimulating conversations about constructing an NBA roster and the lack of penalty minutes in today’s NHL.
On to April.
After much chagrin to the recent wave of last minute cancellations and the threat of a second steak night to be cancelled in 3 months due to low attendance (expansion talks on the horizon?) the 3 of us refused to let a good time pass.
Joe’s was the choice as its become the default place for when you have an excuse to get out of the house and it didn’t disappoint.
Rick’s fashion game was on point once again. While not as flashy as his normal attire (e.g. no leather or snakeskin pants) Since we have a picture posted I don’t need to fully describe it – but the houndstooth hat really completed the outfit.
We had the crab, the steak and one of the runners-up for best desert in Chicago – the tres leches. As Rick and Crenshaw were tres leches virgins it took a lot of coaxing – but unlike Han’s carrot cake obsession the plate went back empty.
On to April and 10(!) years
