Prime & Provisions-The Power Trio
Rush, Cream, RUN-DMC, and those in attendance at the last steak night, what do they have in common? They are all great trio’s. While the power trio in music may be a good thing, I think we want more for steak night. This is not directed at anyone in particular but at the group as a whole, attendance has been shit the past few months. The past three months we have had 5, 4 and 3 people at each dinner. Twelve people total over a 3 month period. No one expects everyone to be there every month, things come up, life happens, we all get that. However averaging 4 people over a 3 month period for a group our size is pathetic. Four people should be the exception, not the norm. We are better than that boys. If we want this group to continue and continue to thrive we must do better. I get it, some of us are single and don’t have any kids and our life’s are less complicated. However if you read the article Conway sent about the importance of guys having scheduled activities with friends as they get older then you know it might be even more important for those married with kids to get out. Plus it is often the only time some of us non married folks see you every month. Our attendance needs to be better than Ferris Bueller’s. This PSA brought to you by those that would like Steak Night to continue for years to come. I am officially jumping off the soap box.
The treacherous three of Hans, Glick and myself arrived at Prime &Provisions to begin the evening’s festivities. This place is packed, big bar crowd and the dining room is as crowded as any place we have been. We were seated at the Godfather table again this month. Appetizers included bacon with a pepper, maple, chocolate rub and the jumbo shrimp cocktail. The rub on the bacon was good but the bacon itself was weird, mostly fat with some meat on the edges. The shrimp cocktail are enormous and we decided to dice some up and share, probably should have ordered more of these.
I went with the bone in ribeye medium rare. The crust was a bit over charred for my taste but overall a good steak. Sides included whipped potatoes with a horseradish crust, creamed spinach and charred sweet corn with parmesan cream, lime and queso fresco. I didn’t have the spinach but the other sides were tasty. For dessert we had a peanut butter and whipped chocolate pie which rich but delicious. We were also comped a chocolate cake because apparently it was my birthday. Our waiter was in training and had a senior server with him but I thought we did fine, certainly better than that little shit from last month. There was also no wine chicanery this meal for the first time in a while.
Post dinner we ventured over to Hi-Line to watch the second half of the Pats/Chiefs game. Joe Predicto had to explain to the nice but extremely uninformed gentleman sitting next to us at the bar why taking the Pats minus 9 on opening night is a terrible bet.
A small but might crew but we still had a great time. Let’s have more than four in October.

It’s always Rick’s Bday. Like Chuck E Cheese- at steak night its always Rick’s Bday.
Being Rick’s Bday – and in honor of Run RBG (Rick Bubby Glick) – Rick brought out his U of Miami inspired gold chain to highlight his starter wind breaker and his fly converse high tops. Not many people can rock the THICK gold chain like Super Fly Rick.
Much has been said about attendance and we miss Mr. Conway but I’ll add my two cents – its time for expansion. There are several highly qualified candidates who would add to the festivities, diversity and conversation topics. If no one shows up again in October – I’m enforcing this as a force majure type measure.
On to dinner – much like the KC/NE game Prime & Provisions was a bit of a surprise. The vibe was great – Bubby and I split an awesome Ribeye and Rick’s bday cake celebrated the occasion right. They do a solid creamed spinach. Only bone to pick was the shrimp cocktail – i find it weird splitting one jumbo shrimp three ways – but that’s because its weird to give people 1 jumbo shrimp. to split 3 ways.
On to Highline and the Kareem Hunt breakout game. Hans and I watched the game as Joe Predicto mustered his inner Scottie Martin and made a new friend.
Good times all around.

Getting back to my German ways I was on time and arrived to find a packed bar but no sign of Rick. I wasn’t expecting to find Glick as it was just past 7pm and we know his track record speaks for itself. Turns out Rick was wandering the streets in search of a shoe shine shop that would do white sneakers while waiting for me to arrive and came strolling in moments later. P&P had a full house on their hands which after the Del Frisco Debacle was a nice change of scene. Their cocktail menu is pretty mundane so I opted for bourbon on the rocks. I did not expect it to be served in a thimble with a couple rocks, very poor pour for the price. Say that three times fast. I agree with Reeshard Joelle on attendance, piss poor, however I disagree with giving Glick carte blanche on the new entrants. Lets get this thing back on track boys.
Godfather booth with 3 gentlemen allows enough room even Scotty wouldnt be able to get his hands on your thighs. The jumbo shrimp was a lobster tail in disguise, same flavor and consistency. I dont think I would want one of these all to myself given the vast amount of food still to be had but splitting a single shrimp is weird. The bacon was equally odd. Interesting rub, but it was only covering up inadequate bacon. This was the first steak that I really enjoyed splitting out of the multiple attempts. Well prepared and one of the better ribeye cuts we have been served. I thought the mashy P’s were a bit odd because of their almost soupy consistency which was attributed to them being “whipped”. All mashy P’s are whipped so I dont know what that has to do with anything, still tasty nonetheless. Decent creamed spinach and the elote was delicious. Glick channeled his inner holinger opposite and found a good bottle for a great price. Rick’s bday dessert was more than I needed to eat but impossible to pass up. Off to Highline to watch the conclusion of the NFL opener and the Rick work his charms on some southern gentleman. He claims he was gentle. 8.5/10
