Bavettes- Only the Strong Survive

In the history of Steak Night never has more fortitude been shown by so few people. After Brad Ray and Don both punted for a record third time in a row – the gauntlet was thrown to me to host a place worthy of a special guest, a future politician and, well, Crenshaw.

Tight crew – but bonus points for Bill and Dave for coming straight from their opening ass kicking of the David Duval flight at the River Forest open.

Bavettes it was because Bavettes it should be. We started off hot with the marrow, the shrimp scampi (no more de jong) and the goat cheese. We each ate a loaf of bread before the steaks came.

Dave battled but the allergy pills, the bread and the conversation TKO’d him before the steaks. First time in steak night history we’ve had someone leave before the steaks – but since he wasn’t drinking – he has a good excuse of not thinking the steaks had already come.

We went family style on the ribeye and the bone in filet and both were solid. The corn Elote and the broccoli I were out of this world.

We celebrated Dave’s Bday in absentia and will post the pictures when I can figure it out.

Went next door w Crenshaw to play pool and I took his lunch money.

  1. I love you guys, but I’m always happy that so many people cancel, we can take a small group to Bavette’s. It’s still far and away my favorite steak joint in the city, and this evening was just another reason why. As Ron mentioned already, the apps were all spectacular, and I think Jesus may have been in house turning one loaf of bread into a dozen. We carbo-loaded big time. Alas, it wasn’t enough to get Bill and Dave out of the flight the next day. Poor Dave was taken down by a migraine and had to leave early. So myself, Senator Conway and Assistant to the Traveling Secretary Glick all had our fair share (Pun Intended) of ribeye and filet.

I know this is unbelievable, but I’ve found yet another zapruder-like film of Brad Ray toppling over a few weeks ago. I’m not sure where all of these cameras were that night but I guess someone is always watching, and filming.

Anyway, a great night, ending with me probably scratching on the 8 ball as there’s no way Glick beat me on skill alone.

    9.5/10
