Prime & Provisions-The Power Trio
Rush, Cream, RUN-DMC, and those in attendance at the last steak night, what do they have in common? They are all great trio’s. While the power trio in music may be a good thing, I think we want more for steak night. This is not directed at anyone in particular but at the group as a whole, attendance has been shit the past few months. The past three months we have had 5, 4 and 3 people at each dinner. Twelve people total over a 3 month period. No one expects everyone to be there every month, things come up, life happens, we all get that. However averaging 4 people over a 3 month period for a group our size is pathetic. Four people should be the exception, not the norm. We are better than that boys. If we want this group to continue and continue to thrive we must do better. I get it, some of us are single and don’t have any kids and our life’s are less complicated. However if you read the article Conway sent about the importance of guys having scheduled activities with friends as they get older then you know it might be even more important for those married with kids to get out. Plus it is often the only time some of us non married folks see you every month. Our attendance needs to be better than Ferris Bueller’s. This PSA brought to you by those that would like Steak Night to continue for years to come. I am officially jumping off the soap box.
The treacherous three of Hans, Glick and myself arrived at Prime &Provisions to begin the evening’s festivities. This place is packed, big bar crowd and the dining room is as crowded as any place we have been. We were seated at the Godfather table again this month. Appetizers included bacon with a pepper, maple, chocolate rub and the jumbo shrimp cocktail. The rub on the bacon was good but the bacon itself was weird, mostly fat with some meat on the edges. The shrimp cocktail are enormous and we decided to dice some up and share, probably should have ordered more of these.
I went with the bone in ribeye medium rare. The crust was a bit over charred for my taste but overall a good steak. Sides included whipped potatoes with a horseradish crust, creamed spinach and charred sweet corn with parmesan cream, lime and queso fresco. I didn’t have the spinach but the other sides were tasty. For dessert we had a peanut butter and whipped chocolate pie which rich but delicious. We were also comped a chocolate cake because apparently it was my birthday. Our waiter was in training and had a senior server with him but I thought we did fine, certainly better than that little shit from last month. There was also no wine chicanery this meal for the first time in a while.
Post dinner we ventured over to Hi-Line to watch the second half of the Pats/Chiefs game. Joe Predicto had to explain to the nice but extremely uninformed gentleman sitting next to us at the bar why taking the Pats minus 9 on opening night is a terrible bet.
A small but might crew but we still had a great time. Let’s have more than four in October.
